Bio/Statement
I am a self-taught needlepoint artist living in southwestern Maine. I have been stitching my original designs for over three decades and still feels that I have barely scratched the surface of what I hope to explore with my needle. Through fiber and the traditional medium of needlepoint, I have found a voice to express my ideas in both abstract and representational art. It has been a source of great satisfaction to create using this slow, meditative process. Working with a needle and thread/yarn for hours on end, enables me to defy the speed of modern life. . . every stitch matters! Learning to allow the work to develop organically has been one of the most liberating lessons I have learned as an artist. Even the most planned piece is given absolute freedom to alter during the course of its progress. Recognizing that constraints in life and art will negatively impact both, I consciously live by the words-one's life is one's art and when in perfect balance, it is, indeed a well-stitched life.
